FAQ

  • Are tooth gems safe?

    Of course!

Have you ever had braces before? The crystals and gold are bonded using the exact same dental adhesive as braces brackets, except instead of coming out of your appointment with braces, you’ll leave with a blinged up smile!

Your gems will not cause any harm or enamel erosion.

I only use lead free, mouth safe Swarovski or Preciosa crystals, and solid 18-22ct gold.

  • So it's not superglued on?

    Oh heck no!!

Back in the 90s you might have got your tooth gem applied at your local beauty salon (or maybe you even did a little DIY job at home!) wit the likes of nail glue - but this is 2024!

Tooth health is important to us, so there is no nail glue, superglue or any of the likes in sight!

Dental grade adhesive only here! The same product your orthodontist would use t apply braces.

  • And it won't damage my teeth?

    Absolutely not!

I am a qualified Tooth Gem Technician.

My training is in compliance with the General Dental Council, meaning everything is totally above board and dentists know we are carrying out these treatments safely.

I only use the best, professional products to apply both crystals and gold.

There will be no damage to your natural teeth.

  • But does it hurt?

    Fear not!!

There are zero drills involved, and zero pain.

This is a non-invasive treatment - there is absolutely nothing to worry about!

  • Isn't tooth gem application classed as dentistry?

    Nope!

This service, under section 37 (1) of the dentists act, does not constitute as practicing dentistry.

In short, it is a very superficial, semi-permanent service that if applied and removed safely, will be like nothin was ever there.

It does not cause a permanent change to the tooth, unlike tooth whitening, therefore there is no damage done.

I am qualified and insured to carry out this service, and would only ever perform safe application using the best dental products on the market.

  • Can I wear my retainers or Invisalign with my gems?

Tooth gems cannot be applied to those using Invisalign.

If you have metal retainers, please bring them with you to your appointment and we can fit the gems around your retainer.

If you wear a plastic retainer, you can have this altered to fit your gems, however, I cannot guarantee the longevity of the crystals.

Crystals will not fit underneath your plastic retainer without some type of modification.

  • What if I have composite bonding or veneers?

Unfortunately, tooth gems will not bond properly to veneers as they need a porous surface to adhere to.

This is the same for composite bonding, dentures, or crowns.

The longevity of the gems would be significantly decreased, and I would not be happy applying gems that will not last.

If you have any natural teeth, we can still apply crystals on those!

  • How long will my tooth gems last?

    Tooth gems are not permanent.

They may last anywhere from 1 month to 2+ years!

Longevity is very dependent on aftercare, so make sure to read your aftercare information before and after your appointment!

  • What about brushing my teeth?

You will be given aftercare instructions for how to care for your gems immediately after your appointment.

After this, it’s super important to keep up with your regular dental routine! Brush twice a day for two minutes, use interdental brushes, and visit your dentist for regular check-ups.

Tooth gems won’t affect your ability to brush your teeth , but could trap plaque around the gem if you fail to brush regularly.

Your oral health regime is an important part of committing to your treatment.

  • Can I use an electric brush, and can I still floss?

We recommend an electric toothbrush over a manual one for optimal cleaning, but try to use a dense soft bristled brush head, as hard plastic pronged brushes could cause trauma to the gem.

You can purchase a soft bristled manual brush at your appointment for £2.50.

Try to use interdental brushes rather than floss, to avoid pinging off any crystals.

  • What if my tooth gem falls off within a month of application?

Fangs offers a one month guarantee on gems, and a two month guarantee on gold pieces.

It is very unlikely they would fall off that quickly, but things happen sometimes!

If your gem comes off in this time, please contact me and I will reapply a new crystal free of charge.

If your gold falls off, please bring this to your appointment.

  • Help! What if I have swallowed my tooth gem?

    No need to stress!

All crystals used are non toxic, and completely safe if ingested.

They will not harm you, and will safely make their way out of your system - you won’t even notice!

  • Is it reversible?

It’s understandable that you may want to change up your tooth gem set! It can be fun to switch up your style.

To remove your gems, pop along to your dentist/hygienist for a scale and polish, and they can safely remove them in a matter of minutes (pain free and quick removal!)

  • How old do you have to be?

You have to be 16+ for this service.

You my be asked to present ID to prove your age at your appointment.

  • I'm not sure what I want?

Don’t worry, it ca be hard to decide!

Book a consultation appointment - you will be able to see our range of crystals and gold, and we can discuss what might suit your style and anatomy best!
